Microsoft’s latest innovation is a flat table like computer system powered by Windows vista and controlled by touch screen. For the matter of fact it is called Microsoft Surface.
Surface is a Windows Vista powered computer placed inside a shiny black table base. These machines are user-friendly and have a 30-inch touch screen in a clear acrylic
frame.
GeekLord’s comment: It is a nice product and a good concept, but based on my own experience with Nokia 7710 (touch screen PDA with very few keys) I can say that It would take a lot of time and effort to develop a system that can by used without conventional input devices. It can be really annoying at times when you can’t give the device a three finger salute. 🙂
good to have some one search for theese up dates.if possible host names of some very use ful sites of tech&xcomp relaterd info
I couldn’t understand some parts of this article by GeekLord.com, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
I understand when u say conventional input devices, but this is not your standard desktop PC where you create word documents or play games. It has it’s uses, think : info kiosks, control rooms etc. The possibility to have more than one input point on such a screen makes it an extremely valuable technology.
Hi dvius,
According to Moore’s low, The technology gets updated very rapidly, but still the conventional input devices at large are old style keyboard and our faithful mouse. While considering the last 25 years, common PC user spends 99% of time with these common input devices while working on some smart machine.
The touch screen is not a new technology, but Microsoft Surface is indeed a dawn of a new era. I hope some day in near future I’ll be using a similar device for writing my blog post. 🙂
